Happy Birthday to Charles Darwin, a lad after my own heart. We were similar in many ways. I only wish I could have known him when he was at the Royal, but that was after my time, unfortunately. He was one of the greatest natural philosophers of all time. His grandfather, Erasmus was a friend of mine, also a great natural philosopher and a polymath of extraordinary scope and his grandson was surely a chip off the old block.
It astounds me that in 2013 there are still people for whom natural selection is regarded as a mere “theory,” any more than gravity itself would be considered a “theory.” The truth of it is self-evident in every square millimetre of the face of the earth.
